Proposed Rule Change – 21 NCAC 25 .0801

The NCITLB is proposing a new rule, 21 NCAC 25 .0801, which would require Video Relay Interpreters (VRI) to hold a license in North Carolina.

21 NCAC 25 .0801 VIDEO REMOTE INTERPRETER LICENSE REQUIREMENT
(a) Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is defined as a fee-based interpreting service conveyed via videoconferencing where either the interpreter or consumer is in a separate location.
(b) Unless an exception applies under N.C. Gen. Stat. §90D-4(b), an interpreter shall not provide VRI for an individual physically located in North Carolina before being licensed under 21 NCAC 25 .0200.
